Mi sono spesso chiesto come mai dei popoli come quelli che abitano quella zona del Nord Ovest degli Stati Uniti detta del Plateau abbiano sviluppato una passione così profonda per i colori più vivaci. Tutta la loro arte è costruita su tonalità brillanti che coprono lo spettro più vivo della gamma dei colori. Dopo tutto quella è una zona dove il cielo è grigio la maggior parte dell'anno e le foreste rendono tutto ancora più grigio. Ho chiesto questo anche ad una amica originaria di quell'area, una straordinaria artista nativa con una profonda conoscenza di quelle tradizioni, e la sua risposta è stata che forse quei colori così brillanti servivano proprio a ricordare le poche giornate luminose dell'estate, quando il freddo e la pioggia lasciavano spazio a un sole che scaldava gli uomini e la loro arte.

I've often wondered why people like those who lived in the Northwestern area of the United States known as the Plateau have developed a so deep passion for the brightest colors. All their art is constructed by bright shades covering the spectrum of the most vivid range of colors. After all this is an area where the sky is gray most of the year, and forests make it even more gray. I also asked this to a friend born in that area, a unique native artist with a deep knowledge of those traditions, and her response was that maybe those so bright colors just served to remind the few bright days of summer, when the cold and rain gave way to a sun that warmed the men and their art.

Roll on Columbia, Roll on

Come qualcuno molto più bravo di me ha detto il decoro a perline non è la forma d'arte più veloce al mondo.
A seconda della complessità del motivo (e della personale abilità) possono essere necessarie molte ore prima di vedere un lavoro finito.
La fase di realizzazione però, per chi è appassionato,  può essere  un momento di relax, una specie di "meditazione". Ecco allora un mio lavoro in fase di realizzazione. 
 L'originale, visibile nella prima foto, è una "Flat Bag" della zona del Plateau risalente al 1860.

L'artigianato, ed il gusto delle donne del Columbia River erano ricchi e complessi ed alcune di loro, nel XX sec., raggiunsero fama nazionale.

Questa ricchezza si è mantenuta fino ad oggi.
Il mio vorrebbe essere un omaggio a quelle donne ed artiste.

As someone better than me has told beadwork is not the fast art in the world.
According to the complexity of the pattern (and the personal ability) there is need of a lot of hours until the final result. However the making, to who is impassioned, can be a moment of relax, a sort of "meditation". Here is a mine job partially finished.
The original one, in the first photo, was a 1860's "Flat Bag" of the Plateau area.

The craftsmanship and the taste of the women of Columbia River were rich and complexes and some of them, in the XX century, were renowned at national level. 
This wealth is maintained still today.
Mine would want to be a homage to those women and artists.
