Un ventaglio da cerimonia contemporaneo, realizzato dai Nativi Americani della zona delle Pianure è costituito normalmente da cinque a sette piume singolarmente decorate e fissate su un manico di legno. Le piume provengono dall'ala o dalla coda dell'animale e sono ornate con aculei, perline, altre piccole piume, stoffa o pelle. La parte finale della piuma è avvolta generalmente in pelle di daino bianca fissata con un filo e spesso ornata con fasce metalliche. Il manico è rivestito in pelle e arrichito con perline lavorate secondo la tecnica Peyote. Questo tipo di ventagli usati per la cerimonia del Peyote, o quelli comunque associati con i riti religiosi della Native American Church, sono oggetti sacri come i nostri paramenti e non devono essere copiati, o trattati in modo irrispettoso.
A contemporary fan made by Native Americans of the plains consists of five to seven feathers which are individually dicorated and set into a wooden handle. The wing or tail feathers are decorated with small trim or feathers, cloth or leather spots, and hackle feathers. The quills of the large feathers are wrapped with white buckskin, wrapped with thread and often adorned with metal bands. The handle is wrapped with leather and enbellished with beaded applique or with peyote stitch beadwork. Peyote fans, or those associated with the religious rites of the Native American Church, are very serious and should not be copied, displayed, or treated disrespectfully.

Alcuni passaggi nella preparazione di un "necklace". Delle strisce di pelle conciata al cervello sono fatte passare in due spaziatori realizzati con pelle di bisonte grezza. Ho poi aggiunto delle perle in ottone e avvolto le strisce con perline nei vecchi colori prodotte ad inizio 900. L'originale del necklace appartiene alla collezione Linderman ed è ora esposto presso il museo della Northwest Montana Historical Society

Some steps in the making of a necklace. Three strips of brain tanned hide are passed through two spacers made of buffalo raw hide. I then added some brass beads and wrapped the hide strips with old colors seed beads, these beads were made at the beginning of 900s. The original necklace belongs to the Linderman collection and is now on display at the Northwest Montana Historical Society museum.
Un tamburo realizzato alla fine dell'800 dal famoso artista Black Prairie Chicken
Il tamburo è uno degli strumenti e dei simboli più universalmente conosciuti delle culture degli Indiani d'America. Esso è tradizionalmente realizzato con pelle non conciata stesa su una struttura in legno e tesa con legamenti in tendine.
Questo è il magnifico tamburo che la grande artista Nativa Angela Swedberg ha realizzato per me. Il giallo è il colore del giorno, il blu quello della notte. Il maschio e la femmina di alce rappresentano il dualismo della vita.
Il nome del tamburo è: "Moonlight Song".

The drum is one of the the most universally known instruments and symbols of the American Indians cultures. It's traditionally made with rawhide placed over a wooden frame and stretched with sinew.
This is the amazing drum that the great Native artist Angela Swedberg has created for me. The yellow is the color of the day, the blue of the night. The male and female elks are the duality of life.
Mocassini in un solo pezzo provenienti dal Plateau
Questo è lo schema usato tradizionalmente per la realizzazione di un mocassino in due pezzi, composto da una suola rigida e da una tomaia in pelle morbida. Erano mocassini usati principalmente nelle Pianure in quanto la suola rigida proteggeva da rocce ed arbusti. Al nord del continente invece nasceva la esigenza di difendersi dal clima freddo e pertanto era spesso aggiunto un ulteriore parte in pelle a formare una sorta di stivaletto. Qui a seguire la sequenza fotografica della realizzazione di un mio paio di mocassini alti. Con una precisazione: in questo caso ho lasciato la cucitura sulla parte esterna della suola e non all'interno come era tradizionalmente fatto.

This above is the pattern traditionally used to make two pieces moccasin, made out of a rigid sole and a soft hide upper. Moccasins like this were used mainly in the Plains as the rigid sole protected by rocks and bushes. To the North of the continent instead arose the need to defend themselves from cold weather and therefore was often added a further hide part to form a sort of boot. Here to follow the sequence of the realization of a pair of high moccasins i made. With a clarification: in this case I left the stitching on the outsole and not inside as it was traditionally done.
